Oregonians in Action’s President calls Roberts “the best person on the ballot to represent the southern Oregon coast”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Scott Roberts, D.D.S, candidate for the Oregon Legislature in House
District 9, is excited to announce the endorsement of Oregonians in
Action (OIA), a non-partisan, non-profit organization representing
Oregon home and property owners.

Dave Hunnicutt, president of OIA, emphasized that property rights
aren’t a Republican or Democrat issue. “Property ownership is the
American dream. It isn’t the Republican dream or the Democrat dream.
All Oregonians, regardless of the party membership or philosophy, have
a right to do as they wish with their private property without the
government imposing crippling fees, taxes, or regulations. As a small
business and property owner, we believe Scott Roberts will do
everything possible to protect the rights of private property owners.”

“He’s the best person on the ballot to represent the southern Oregon
coast,” said Hunnicut.

Roberts says he was honored by OIA’s endorsement and Hunnicutt’s
comments. “There are few rights more sacred than the right to do as
we wish with property that is ours,” said Roberts. “When I am a state
legislator, I will never, ever stop fighting to protect that right.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dr. Scott Roberts will officially launch his campaign to represent House District 9 in the Oregon Legislature on Saturday, February 13th at 1PM at the Coos Bay Boardwalk. “I am so excited about this campaign, ” said Roberts. “Right before our kick-off event at the Boardwalk, a group of supporters will be joining me and my family in going door-to-door to let people know about my campaign for limited, responsible government and my goal to give the people of the our community a voice in Salem.”

Along with Dr. Roberts, speakers will include Oregon House Republican Leader Bruce Hanna (R-Roseburg) who will speak of the need for common-sense voices like Scott Roberts in the Oregon State Legislature. “Scott is putting his heart and soul into this campaign because he just believes in it so much,” commented Hanna. “So often in Salem it’s just politics as usual. To know that there are people like Scott Roberts out there who want to be a part of the legislature for no other reason than he loves his community is so refreshing. He’s going to be a great addition and will be an amazing representative of the Southern Oregon Coast because he shares their values and commitment to the community.”

Pizza and beverages will be served at the event. “Come by, grab some pizza, and say hi!” said Roberts.

A North Bend oral surgeon is making a bid to try to unseat state Rep. Arnie Roblan in next year’s general election.

Dr. Scott Roberts announced Wednesday he will seek the Republican nomination for the Oregon House of Representatives’ ninth district. He pointed to tax increases, unsustainable state spending and land use regulations as reasons behind his decision.

“Our country was founded on a limited government, and I decided I needed to step up in our community and our area,” he said Wednesday.

The 42-year-old father of three has been practicing medicine in North Bend since 1998, having grown up in Phoenix, Ariz. He doesn’t have elected government experience, though he is president of the State Society of Oral and Maxillogfacial Surgeons.

If elected, he said he would be the only dentist in the state House of Representatives, offering an important viewpoint during health care discussions.

He first started thinking about entering politics in the run-up to the 2008 primaries. He found he disagreed with elected officials’ decisions. He considers his medical background an asset for any future health care reform discussions, though he is mostly concerned about tax hikes passed during the last legislative session. He has participated in Tea Party events and supports efforts to repeal tax increases with the special election in January.

“I’m nervous about the tax laws passed by the Oregon Legislature,” he said. “I think that is a big burden on small businesses.”

Roberts owns his practice and employs 10 people. In addition, he has a satellite office in Florence.

He decided to run for the Ninth District, in part, because it covers much of his clientele base. He also took issue with Roblan’s decisions during the past session.

“Mr. Roblan voted for every single tax bill that came through the Oregon Legislature,” he said. “We differ completely.”

The three counties comprising our legislative district (Lane, Coos, and Douglas) have seen their share of hard times in the past two decades. With the shutting down of multiple timber mills and the countless regulations aimed at our local fishing fleets there continues to be obstacles placed before our hard-working members of these industries preventing them from growing and prospering.

SPENDING: Our legislature, including our representative, Arnie Roblan, has not helped their situation here with their fiscal irresponsibility in government spending. Increasing the budget greater than 9% in the last legislative session does not seem to make common sense. Citizens here are tightening their belts, adhering more closely to a rational family budget, and not spending money that they don’t have.

UNEMPLOYMENT: As unemployment rises on the Coast, around the state, and nationally, we need different leadership to facilitate an environment allowing small businesses to develop, innovate, and grow their companies. The goal is to foster business growth allowing expansion and increased employment opportunities for residents here on the beautiful coast of Oregon. My experiences generated over eleven years involving my private Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery practice serving communities from four counties ranging geographically from Brookings to Newport, are invaluable and greatly needed in our current recessionary economic environment.
